Vagabon – “Water Me Down” [Video]

Vagabon (aka Lætitia Tamko) has released a Maegan Houang-directed video for “Water Me Down,” the latest from her self-titled sophomore album, due October 18 via Nonesuch Records. Vagabon is available for pre-order HERE.

Of the video, Tamko says “with the ‘Water Me Down’ video, I knew I wanted to make a visual with striking vignettes, I wanted the colors to reflect those that illuminate my album cover, I worked with film again, as I have with all my videos so far, this time we went with 16mm. And I wanted to flex a muscle I haven’t shared yet, dancing. Derek Nemecheck, my choreographer, and I worked together on movement. We never strayed from the dancing that felt natural in my body and it was so rewarding. Director Maegan Houang executed these ideas beautifully.” Houang says “we worked with Derek Nemechek to choreograph movement that went from feeling rigid and structured to something more free form. Lighting, camera movement, costume design, color and set changes then served to accentuate the transformation Laetitia undergoes, finally allowing herself to be free and alone from people that hold her back.”

Metronomy – “Wedding Bells” [Video]

Today, British five-piece Metronomy releases their new album, Metronomy Forever via Because Music. To coincide with today’s album release, Metronomy shares the brand new video for “Wedding Bells.” Directed by Mount’s long-term friend and collaborator Daniel Brereton (who directed most of the band’s videos from 2008’s Nights Out album), the visual finds Metronomy playing at a house party where a particularly awkward love triangle swiftly degenerates into a frenzied, free-for-all food fight. Brereton’s visual captures the technicolor vibrancy and sheer fun of ’90s music videos from the likes of Sonic Youth and Smashing Pumpkins with references to cult classic films Dazed & Confused, Donnie Darko, and True Romance.

Metronomy also launches the new album with a sold-out, in-store performance and signing session at Rough Trade in New York City on September 28th. They will also have four other performance and signing sessions at Rough Trade stores around the UK before beginning their UK and European tour October 9th. You can find full tour below.

Angel Olsen – “Lark” [Video]

Angel Olsen presents “Lark,” the second single/video from her forthcoming album, All Mirrors, due October 4th via Jagjaguwar. “‘Lark’ is a song that took many years to finish. The disjointed feelings and verses of this song began to make sense as a way for me to exercise a kind of journey through grieving, a kind of personal struggle,” says Olsen. “The message of the song developed at first from an argument I once had with someone about trust and support. Later, I pulled from recurring themes in my life as a musician and as a human that dreams for a living. It’s easy to promise the world to those we love, but what about when our dreams change and values split?”

The accompanying video was filmed in North Carolina’s Asheville and Outer Banks with director Ashley Connor, who Olsen collaborated with on the video for lead single, “All Mirrors.” Olsen will tour North America and Europe following the release of All Mirrors. Kim Gordon – “Air BnB” [Video]

Kim Gordon has released “Air BnB”, the new single and its accompanying “video” from her forthcoming debut solo album, No Home Record, out October 11th on Matador Records. A towering rock track that launches from brittle, noise-bitten verses evoking “blue towels and water bottles” and “47 inch flat TV” into an explosive, defiantly-catchy mantra – “Air BnB” is an exhilarating tour de force and unlikely anthem for the hospitality gig economy. Watch and listen HERE. Pre-order the album HERE.

Omni – “Skeleton Key” [Video]

On November 1st, Omni will release their Sub Pop debut Networker, 11 tracks that were written between tours and a handful of studio sessions, allowing Omni’s Frankie Broyles and Philip Frobos to push their songwriting boundaries while keeping the stage in mind, designing songs to enhance their tight, energetic performances. Longtime collaborator, Nathaniel Higgins returned to help capture what is their most “HI-FI” album to date. Together they recorded the LP in Vienna, GA between November 2018 – April 2019.

The band has just shared a new video for their song “Skeleton Key” which you can watch here. Frontman Philip Frobos had this to share about the song: “when Frankie and I wrote ‘Skeleton Key’ it felt like a turning point for our record, as though we had reached a new rock n roll echelon and Networker was truly underway. Lyrically this came together after hearing about some friends’ strange, surprising and sometimes hilarious online dating experiences.”

Networker is now available for preorder from Sub Pop HERE. You can check out Omni’s current tour dates below.

Bleached – “Daydream” [Video]

Bleached – the Los Angeles-based duo of sisters Jessie and Jennifer Clavin – have a new video for “Daydream,” off Don’t You Think You’ve Had Enough?, released earlier this year via Dead Oceans. “Daydream” is about realizing that living in the past, daydreaming of what could have been, is just a waste of time. The video is directed by Giraffe Studios which the sister team has worked with for all facets of Don’t You Think… visuals.

“Daydream” was born from a premonition about driving to the desert to write a song. It is my favorite song on the record,” says Jennifer. “While it can be interpreted as a love song at its core, it’s about how our minds are our masters. We tend to dwell on the past, live in regret with ‘what ifs’ but what’s the point? It’s a waste of our time and takes us out of the present. Letting go can be challenging but it’s worth it when the weight lifts and you finally feel free.”

Chastity – “Flames” [Video]

Ontario’s Chastity have a new video from their upcoming album, Home Made Satan. “Flames” is the prequel to visuals for “The Girls I Know Don’t Think So” and “Sun Poisoning,” shot from the perspective of a young boy taking in the world around him. The new video arrives ahead of their North American Fall tour with DIIV starting October 12th in Phoenix. Home Made Satan, due September 13th via Captured Tracks, is the second installment of a building trilogy, bringing a pop sensibility to the band’s catalog following their 2018 debut Death Lust. Recorded over the course of a couple weeks with his full live band in a small studio in London, Ontario, between a European tour with Fucked Up and a seven-week North American tour, Chastity crafted an emotional and political concept record meant to capture voices that often go unrepresented. Durand Jones & The Indications – “Cruisin’ To The Park” [Video]

Durand Jones & The Indications release a video for their new single, “Cruisin’ To The Park.” The song follows their headphone approved sophomore album, American Love Call, released earlier this year via Dead Oceans/Colemine Records.

The video presents a celebration of lowrider car culture, which the band was introduced to through their fans: “We put together our first record in our basement, messing around with different styles of soul music. But it was our sweet-soul tunes that got an overwhelming response from people who introduced us to the world of Chicano soul and lowrider car culture. We’ve gotten so much support from lowriders who love bumping our music in their cars, so we wanted to record a song in celebration of those people who enjoy cruising with friends and loved ones in ranflas across the world.”

The video was directed by Jude Gonzalez. “‘Cruisin’ to the Park” to me shows hard work, dedication and family,” says Gonzalez. “Working with the band and bringing our ideas together helped me bring the lyrics to life. Knowing the lowrider community and being able to bring them together was pretty straight-forward, as they were familiar with the band and the music and they were eager to be apart of a band they love.”

Modern Nature – “Nature” [Video]

Modern Nature presents the video for “Nature” taken from their debut album, How To Live, out now on Bella Union and have announced their first-ever North America tour in early 2020. You can read about the video next and check out the tour dates below.

“‘Nature’ plays a part in the album and has a point of view that isn’t necessarily what I believe (not all the time), but is generally a sort of fatalistic version of what I think about modern nature (behavior),” says Jack Cooper. “The outlook is really to provide some shade to the light and optimism of the last song ‘Devotee’. It’s hard watching the news or navigating life in a city not to get awfully despondent but often when your despair is at its peak, people can amaze you… I think it’s a sort of romantic nihilism.”

“I’d been out filming Brighton Day of Dance earlier in the year, where Morris Teams from all over the country come and spend the day dancing and drinking outside various pubs in Brighton,” says the director Conan Roberts. “It was more out of curiosity of this slightly bizzare British tradition than anything else. Jack saw some of the footage and thought it could be a great accompaniment to one of the tracks from the album. I cut the Morris footage and then independently cut the landscape footage before compositing the two. It was more an experiment in how the two images may or may not work together, exploring the synergy of the dancers movements alongside the shapes of nature.”

Queen Of Jeans – “Get Lost” [Video]

Philadelphia’s Queen of Jeans’ new album, If you’re not afraid, I’m not afraid was just released last Friday on Topshelf Records. If you’re not afraid, I’m not afraid is a reaction to many personal emotions, as this first-released single, “Get Lost,” finds the young lead songwriter, Miri Devora, owning the parts of her that might make her seem like a “square” or “boring” to others. The entire record is an impactful collection of songs that stand for something real; Queen of Jeans’ invitation to the listener to embrace their own stories, no matter how scary it may seem.

You can find the record at Topshelf HERE.

Purple Mountains – “All My Happiness Is Gone” [Video]

Songwriter, poet and cartoonist David Berman, best known as the co-founder of indie-rock institution Silver Jews, died on Wednesday of an apparent suicide. He was just 52 years old.

Sadly, Berman had just returned to the music scene with his excellent Purple Mountains record so this news hits even harder. The one thing about artists is that their music always lives on and Berman’s work with the Silver Jews will always have high praise. So will his Purple Mountains record along with this single. RIP David Berman.
