Tee Vee Repairmann
What’s On TV?
Computer Human/Total Punk Records [2023]
Australia’s Ishka Edmeades is involved with a multitude of bands that includes Satanic Togas, Set-Top Box, Research Reactor Corporation, Gee Tee, Remote Control, Mainframe, and 3D & The Holograms – and the list keeps growing. Well, besides all of that work, Edmeades has now released his debut LP as Tee Vee Repairmann. It is a record that builds on his previous two 7-inch releases under the Tee Vee moniker and maintains his perfect execution of sharp two-minute fuzzy pop bangers.
The album was recorded in Edmeades living room on a Tascam 488, so it has that perfect raw edge to these more power pop song undertones with a little eight track garage rock distortion surrounding them. With the tempo being amped up, What’s On TV? is easy to just let rip from beginning to end. Edmeades’ voice and swagger has an early Jonathan Richman comparison to it while his modern spirit falls into the garage rocking side of Ty Segall that you could find on his early singles compilation.
Tee Vee Repairmann brings a tight and electric punk energy on What’s On TV? that is hard to put down after just one spin. When you factor in the hooks built within these short bursting tracks the album rises to a high level and is Edmeades best output to date. What’s On TV? has that familiar sound because Tee Vee Repairmann has influences that range across many decades that goes back to the 60’s garage days. That timeless stamp puts this album in easy contention for a spot on our year end best of list as its solid and carefree guitar songwriting combined with its instantly catchy choruses will not have Tee Vee Repairmann coming out of TFN playlist anytime soon!
