Fruit Tones
Natural Selection
Greenway Records [2019]
Who: The Fruit Tones hail from Manchester UK and Natural Selection is their debut record.
Sound: Garage rock that comes at you loose, loud and full of energy.
TFN Final Take: Manchester’s Fruit Tones don’t try to win you over with anything fancy or sophisticated on their debut Natural Selection. It is a straight up garage rock album that has subjects like “Drunk At The Zoo,” “Jaywalking,” and “Pop My Clogs.” All of which are part of the record’s 14 tracks that fly by in just over 30 minutes.
What I like about the Fruit Tones is that they play a very raw type of garage rock that on occasion has some surf guitar ripples which keeps your interest and vocals that are almost always just slightly off key. Natural Selection also has a very recorded live to tape vibe and reminds me some of Spokane Washington’s The Makers or at times even the classic sound of The Mummies. Basically, if you are looking for a new band to add to your garage playlist, Fruit Tones will fill your current needs.
