Damaged Bug

Fire Drill Album Review: I am not sure everyone knows this but Thee Oh Sees’ John Dwyer has a synthesizer-driven side project called Damaged Bug. Cold Hot Plumbs is actually his sophomore album under this moniker and once again it is a mixed bag of interesting indie rock that completely relies on the synth backdrop. It is a big switch from his Thee Oh Sees work, which is what you want from a side project as it shows off this completely other side to his music making progress. Some of the tracks here are really infectious and find the right groove which keeps Cold Hot Plumbs afloat. Overall, the 14 track 39 minute record feels a bit long as some tracks are much more experimental. Just because you are a Thee Oh Sees fan does not guarantee you will love this project but if you are into something outside the box and respect Dwyer’s work then Damaged Bug will meet your expectations.
