Ron Gallo – “Wunday (Crazy After Dark) [Video]

Ron Gallo has returned with the announcement of his upcoming LP, Peacemeal is due out October 9th. With the album announcement came the release of his latest video, “WUNDAY.” “It’s an introvert summertime party jam celebrating alone time and isolation, but then after too much solo time starting to go crazy.,” he shares of the track. “I think I wanted this song to sound like Will Smith’s outfits in Fresh Prince of Bel-Air, blending the jazz chords with an old-school boom-bap beat. A very simple, sort of stupid, feel good song.”

Peacemeal is an album by Ron Gallo and titled to describe the creative process making it – kind of like color-blocking or patchwork in fashion. Coming from a year off after a non-stop grind to step back, breathe and attempt to piece together all aspects of himself – resulting in a colorful hodgepodge of pop, jazz, 90’s hip-hop, lo-fi/hi-fi sounds, idiosyncratic guitar playing and for the first time – self-acceptance and at least the feeling of joy in his music. A departure all around for someone who has put out 3 records of intense, socially conscious garage/punk – maybe a sign of starting to find a little peace himself. Most of these songs were written and recorded during a period of self-isolation last summer when Gallo was forced back to America from Italy due to immigration issues where he had planned to stay with his now-wife and collaborator, Chiara, until she got her visa. A time that personally felt weirdly similar to everyone’s situation mid-pandemic less than a year later.

Though Ron Gallo has been making music for more than a decade, this is just the beginning of him finding himself on an endless chase he’s been on forever. If the goal before was to try and change the world now it’s about changing and embracing oneself and trying to make people happy by just being whatever that is, and as always, find the humor in the heaviest human stuff.
