Good Shade: Way Out [Album Review]

Good Shade
Way Out
Dirtnap Records [2019]

Who: Way Out is the 4th studio full length by Columbus, Ohio’s Good Shade.

Sound: Good Shade is a pop/punk band that has a raw sound that is much like the style of Jeff Rosenstock and Rozwell Kid or throwback to The Figgs.

TFN Final Take: Good Shade is propelled by Shane Natalie who composes and records all instruments and vocals on Way Out but recruits an array of Columbus musicians who help bring it all together. This central focus from Natalie gives Way Out its witty quick tempo changes glued together with memorable melodies. You do not need to go any farther than the album’s first track, “Maybe,” to hear this combo and energetic delivery. Way Out is full of foot tappers and songs that stick in your head like the mid-tempo “Hurry It Up” and the explosive “Must Have Been.” This raw unfiltered sound gives Good Shade your favorite bar band vibe while making Way Out a record that is perfect for windows down – volume up!
