Who: Cleveland band Ma Holos have been putting out psychedelic garage rock for four years. Bee On A Rose is their latest LP.

Sound: Ma Holos put out their own Cleveland style of psych garage rock and fans of Thee Oh Sees, The Murlocs, The Meatbodies and Ty Segall projects will be into Bee On A Rose.

TFN Final Take: I saw these guys live several years ago when they opened for Thee Oh Sees. At the time, I thought they were good but still young in every way. Now with the release of Bee On A Rose, you can hear how they have matured in all key areas that include lyrics, musicianship and focus. Ma Holos have in no way changed their core garage rock sound as the first two tracks, “Object Of Affection” and “Can’t Be Found,” are tight rockers that don’t let up and are highlights on the album. But as you get into the second half of Bee On A Rose, you will start to hear some newer avenues such as slower tracks that even have some synth effects. This gives the album closer, “Speedway King,” a brooding shoegazer vibe that helps provide Ma Holos more of an identity and lasting impression. Ma Holos didn’t recreate the garage rock genre on Bee On A Rose but they uphold its spirit and stay true to the sound while still giving fans something different with this entertaining listen!
