The Friday Fire Track: Mumblr – “VHS”

mumblr-4
Mumblr is sort of a meat and potatoes band for TFN. Their somewhat angular indie post punk pulse works for us on every level. Today’s Fire Track, “VHS,” is off their new album, The Never Ending Get Down, which hit the streets today via Fleeting Youth Records.

The band has really tried to shake things up on this outing and break the mold from their earlier recordings. “VHS” accomplishes this as its driving instruments are controlled and contained right up till it closes. The song’s over four-minute running time, along with its big crashing drum finish highlights a new found maturity for Mumblr. Here and on the record, Mumblr push their sound to new boundaries and let the music drift and take the front seat on more than one occasion. “VHS” has a catchy grind that is hard to achieve and hard to turn off!
