Fire Drill Album Review: Heyrocco’s debut album is a throwback to the alternative rock of the 1990s. I was in high school then; the members of Heyrocco are just a couple of years removed from high school now. The lyrics and themes of the album remind me of how grateful I am that high school is a distant memory. Songs like “Virgin” and “Elsewhere” speak to the difficulties of being an adolescent in very direct and painful ways. The wisdom of age (gag) kept me from connecting to this album as much as I would’ve liked. Heyrocco is a likeable group with some catchy songs. However, the South Carolina band lacks the depth on both their song-crafting and writing that I prefer at this point in life. Teenage Movie Soundtrack is about 20 years too late for me.
